#104: The date in Italian

Ever wanted to know how to ask what day it is and to respond:

The expression used is:

Quanti ne abbiamo oggi?

What is today’s date?

The response is:

Ne abbiamo due.

It is the second.

Notice how in English the ordinal number (first, third, fifth, seventh, etc.) is used, but in Italian the cardinal number is used (one, two, three, etc.).

How do you say: It's July 20, 2010? Do you say: il venti luglio duemiladieci?

  4. Keith says:

Oggi è martedì il venti luglio duemiladieci.

Today is Tuesday, July 20, 2010.

Notice in English how we separate everything with commas. In Italian, commas are not used.
